Visual Approach

a. A visual approach is conducted on an IFR flight plan and authorizes a pilot to proceed visually and clear of clouds to the airport. The pilot must have either the airport or the preceding identified aircraft in sight.
This approach must be authorized and controlled by the appropriate air traffic control facility.



• IFR Flight plan에서 수행된다.
• Clear of Clouds를 유지해야 한다.
• 공항 또는 전방 항공기를 in sight하고 있어야 한다.


Reported weather at the airport must have a ceiling at or above 1,000 feet and visibility 3 miles or greater.
ATC may authorize this type approach when it will be operationally beneficial.
Visual approaches are an IFR procedure conducted under IFR in visual meteorological conditions.



• 기상 조건 : 운저 1000feet 이상, 시정 3miles 이상
• VMC 기상 상황에서 수행되는 IFR procedure.


왜 Visual Approach를 쓰는가?

f. Visual approaches reduce pilot/controller workload and expedite traffic by shortening flight paths to the airport.
It is the pilot’s responsibility to advise ATC as soon as possible if a visual approach is not desired.



• 조종사와 관제사의 업무량을 줄인다.
• 공항까지의 항로를 줄여서 교통의 신속화
• 시각 접근이 바람직하지 않다면 ATC에 알려주는 것이 조종사의 책임이다.

주의사항
e. A visual approach is not an IAP and therefore has no missed approach segment.
If a go around is necessary for any reason, aircraft operating at controlled airports will be issued an appropriate advisory/clearance/instruction by the tower.
At uncontrolled airports, aircraft are expected to remain clear of clouds and complete a landing as soon as possible. If a landing cannot be accomplished, the aircraft is expected to remain clear of clouds and contact ATC as soon as possible for further clearance.



• IFR이지만 IAP 계기 접근 절차는 아니기에 MAP 실패 접근 구간은 존재하지 않는다.
• 어느 이유로 복행이 요구될 시, 관제 공항에선 적절한 지시가 내려올 것이다. 비관제 공항에선 Clear of cloud를 유지하고 가능한 빨리 착륙한다. 착륙이 수행되지 않을 것 같으면 Clear of cloud를 유지하며 ATC에 연락을 취해 다음 지시를 받는다.


Authorization to conduct a visual approach is an IFR authorization and does not alter IFR flight plan cancellation responsibility.


• Visual Approach 허가는 IFR이다. IFR 비행 계획이 취소된 것이 아니다.




Contact Approach

a. Pilots operating in accordance with an IFR flight plan, provided they are clear of clouds and have at least 1mile flight visibility and can reasonably expect to continue to the destination airport in those conditions, may request ATC authorization for a contact approach.



• IFR 비행 계획
• 기상 조건 : Clear of Clouds, 시정 1 miles 이상
• 조종사가 먼저 요청해야 한다.
